PET TRAVEL SCHEME

Now you can bring the whole family into Blackbushe

We understand the heartache of leaving behind your faithful four legged companions.  That is why at Blackbushe we have been working hard to launch our new Pet Reception Centre.  Adding to the convenience that Blackbushe Airport already offers our customers, your furry pals are assured a warm welcome.

WHAT IS THE PET TRAVEL SCHEME?

The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) is a UK Government scheme that allows:

  • Pet dogs, cats and ferrets from certain countries and territories to enter the UK without quarantine as long as they meet the rules

  • People in the UK to take their dogs, cats and ferrets to other European Union (EU) and certain non-EU countries and territories, and return with them to the UK without the need for quarantine.

The rules are to keep the UK free from rabies and certain other diseases.  The scheme is administered by DEFRA and AHPA.

Pets are defined as Dogs, Cats, and Ferrets.  Other animals are not covered by this scheme.

WHAT DOCUMENTATION DOES MY PET NEED?

In order for the pet to travel, a full copy of the pet passport or health certificate including all vaccination pages must be provided in advance of the flight. For all animals this must include a valid rabies vaccination.

Additionally, before a dog enters the UK, it must be treated against tapeworm – Treatment must be administered by a vet not less than 24 hours and not more than 120 hours before the scheduled arrival time in the UK.

Any failure to comply with the rules may result in a Pet being refused carriage, or placed into quarantine on arrival.  It is the responsibility of the passengers to ensure that all Pets have the necessary documentation and that this is declared to their operator and Blackbushe Airport in advance of the flight.

I'm an Aircraft Operator, how can I be approved?

Each operator must sign the Blackbushe Airport Service Level Agreement (SLA), and complete a PT19 Required Method of Operation (RMOP) form.  Contact the Blackbushe Pets team via pets@blackbusheairport.co.uk to start your application.  Applications typically take a few weeks to progress through DEFRA and AHPA.
