ATTN: Resident Operators at Blackbushe

As you may know, we are currently progressing with a project to replace the lighting system in its entirety at Blackbushe Airport.

A contractor was selected in Autumn 2023, and the design phase of that work is now complete.  The install phase will start from Monday 4th March 2024, with work to start initially on the main ducting runs parallel to the runway.  This work can be completed with little disruption to ongoing operations.

The full schedule of works is now being worked up, with input from the various sub-contractors and suppliers who have to play their part.  We expect the works to continue until early June 2024.

We will endeavour to deliver the install whilst keeping the runway open, although taxiways will be closed one by one whilst ducting is laid.

The draft works schedule which will be finalised in the next few days.  We are looking at a complete closure to fixed-wing operations from Monday 8th - Friday 19th April 2024 (12 days total) to complete the works within the runway strip and on the runway itself.

This doesn't rule out other smaller additional closures, but the bulk of the trenching next to the runways will be completed in this period.

Once we've got the schedule firmed up, we will distribute the information more widely and issue NOTAMs, but we wanted to give you the maximum notice time for planning your operations.  We appreciate this will be disruptive to your flying, and are grateful for your understanding that the new lighting system will be worth the short-term pain.
